Microwave Tips that do the Trick

Microwave Tips that do the Trick

Hi!

This is my first blog so please excuse me if I break a few eggs.  My name is James Connolly from Waveware Limited and whilst I have seen more than a few summers, I am keen to dip my toe in the whole social media game.  I like to think of myself as the guru of all things Microwave Oven and I would be more than pleased to try to answer any questions you might have.  I decided to base my first blog on Microwave Tips and Tricks.  I think a lot of these will be an eye-opener and I am also hoping that I might get some new tricks from your feedback.  I do hope you enjoy these and they help you to get more from that little powerhouse in the corner so here goes –

  1. To CLEAN your oven and remove cooking odours,  simply boil a cup of water with a slice of lemon for 2-3min.
  2. For BBQ PARTIES, most chefs agree that it is safer to pre-cook food (particularly meats) in the microwave and finish on the barbecue.
  3. Reduce the power level to 50% when reheating leftovers and add 50% to the time. This will give much more evenly heated results.
  4. Place a wet paper towel over the dinner when reheating. The paper towel will heat faster and steam your food
  5. Cover everything except breads and pastries
  6. Use evenly sized pieces of food for even cooking.
  7. Did you know that SAUCES, SOUPS, CUSTARDS, etc. are FAST and EASY in a microwave? You don’t have to keep stirring to get a smooth texture.
  8. TO PEEL TOMATOES place 2 cups of boiling water in a container, add the tomatoes and heat on high for 1 min.  Plunge into cold water and the skin will peel off easily.
  1. Waveware is an Irish company and we know the Irish love their spuds and there is no finer way to cook a spud than in the Microwave Oven. Microwave cooking is the best and fastest was to cook the perfect potato whilst retaining all the water-soluble nutrients (vitamin C and B6) which are lost when boiling.  The standard cooking instruction for potatoes is to pepper the skin with perforations to stop the potatoes exploding.  The perforations allow the steam to escape and the vented hot steam heats the outer skin.  To cook the perfect potato select evenly sized potatoes and arrange them uniformly in a dish, stab on all sides with a fork and cover to retain the steam produced. Here's a dish I prepared before we came on the air. The steam temperature heats the skin and allows it to slide off the potato.  The key is the cooking time.  Do not lift the lid until the cooking time and standing time has expired.

If cooking directly on the turntable, turn half way.  If cooking just one potato, cook on the turntable and cover with an inverted bowl -

That’s my first blog done.  Please feel free to comment below.  Whilst I have a very fragile ego I will not reach perfection without your valuable critique.
